If you had asked me when I was a little boy what defines success I would have given you a straight forward answer. Success is making enough money to buy a 5 pound gummy bear. For some reason my little brain linked success in life to a large chunk of gummy.
As I’ve grown older, defining success has become a little harder. How does on measure it? Do you measure against your neighbor? Do you base it on your career, athletic prowess? How many gummy bears you have in your cupboard?
I was talking to my Dad the other night and through our conversation he helped me to redefine what success in life is. He asked me if I had a roof over my head. I answered yes. He then asked me if I food on my shelves. I said yes. There was a slight pause in the conversation and my Dad said “Seems to me that you’re pretty successful, best to be thankful for what you have.”
I do have much to be thankful for. While I don’t have a 5 pound gummy bear, I do have much more in my life that is so much sweeter. Success in the simple things that’s my definition.
